Many years have passed since Goku first searched for the Dragon Balls. He is a grown man, with a wife and son. He and his friends have settled into their own lives and, for the most part, things are rather peaceful. Then one day, Goku learns he is really a Saiyan and comes from another planet. Now begins new adventures for Goku and his friends as they defend their home against new, more powerful threats.

Overview:	בסדרת האנימה "דרגון בול Z", אשר עלילתה מתרחשת בהמשך חייו של גוקו, גוקו פוגש גוקו באחיו הביולוגי הבוגר, ראדיץ, אשר מגיע לכדור הארץ ומספר לו כי שניהם משתייכים למעשה לגזע חוצנים המכונים סאייאן (נקראים "שבט הסאייאה" בדיבוב העברי). גוקו מגלה שהוא נשלח במקור לכדור הארץ על ידי גזע הסאייאן במטרה להשמיד את הכוכב, אך כאשר החללית שלו התרסקה במהלך הנחיתה גוקו איבד את הזיכרון ומשום כך לא פעל להשלמת המשימה עד כה. במטרה לגרום לגוקו לבצע את משימתו הוא חוטף את בנו, גוהאן ומביא אולטימטום שלא יחזיר את גוהאן עד שגוקו לא יהרוג לפחות 100 בני אנוש. גוקו ופיקולו מאחדים כוחות על מנת להביס את ראדיץ ולהחזיר את בנו של גוקו. בסוף הקרב גוקו נאלץ להקריב את חייו על מנת להרוג את ראדיץ. בהמשך, לוחמי הזי וסון גוקו נלחמים בקרב קשה מול הסאיינים שבאו במטרה להחריב את כדור הארץ ולזכות בכדורי הדרקון למימוש מטרותיהם האכזריות. לאחר מכן יוצאים סון גוקו ולוחמי הזי לכוכב נאמק במטרה להשתמש בכדורי הדרגון בול המקומיים במטרה להחזיר את לוחמי הזי שחוסלו בקרב נגד הסאיינים ונאלצים להלחם מול פריז, העריץ החייזרי שהשמיד את גזע הסאייאה ונגד כוחות צבא החיילים שלו. לאחר שהביסו את פריז ואת כוחותיו מגלים הלוחמים כי איום חדש ומאיים יותר מפריז נמצא באופק, תקיפתם הסודית של אנדרואידים אכזריים שנוצרו על ידי ד"ר ג'ירו מצבא הסרט האדום שאותו חיסל גוקו כילד. תקופת האיום מצד האנדרואידים מגיעה לקיצה כאשר גוהאן מביס את האנדרואיד האיום סל ששאב את אנרואידים 17 ו-18, בקרב בו הקריב סון גוקו את עצמו. על אף שגוקו מסוגל להחזיר עצמו לחיים הוא מחליט להישאר מת במשך שבע שנים על מנת להקדיש תקופה זו לאימונים. כאשר הוא חוזר, הוא מוצא עצמו בעיצומו של קרב המתנהל כנגד חייזר המכונה מאג'ין בו. בסיום קרב קשה מאוד שגבה מחיר של השמדת כדור הארץ, ממשיך הקרב על כוכבם של הקאיואים העליונים שבו לוקחים חלק סון גוקו ומקיטה כנגד מאג'ין בו בצורתו האחרונה והחזקה ביותר. לאחר שהכין כדור אנרגיה המכיל אנרגיה מכל תושבי כדור הארץ ומכוחם של תושבי כוכב נאמק החדש מצליח סון גוקו להשמיד את מאג'ין בו. עשר שנים לאחר מכן במהלך טורניר אמנויות לחימה, גוקו פוגש בגלגול האנושי של מאג'ין בו המכונה "אוב". בסוף המאנגה, גוקו לוקח את אוב עימו למסע במטרה לאמן אותו. Son-Goku, inzwischen mit Chichi verheiratet und Vater von Son-Gohan, erhält Besuch von seinem Bruder Radditz. Er erfährt, dass er vom Planeten Vegeta stammt, ein Saiya-jin ist und ursprünglich mit der Mission die Erde zu erobern losgeschickt wurde. Weil Son-Goku jedoch als Junge in eine Schlucht stürzte und sein Gedächtnis verlor, konnte er sich an seinen Auftrag nicht mehr erinnern und genoss eine mehr oder minder normale Jugend bei seinem „Adoptiv“-Großvater, der ihn die Kampfkunst lehrte. Radditz erinnert Son-Goku an seine eigentliche Mission, doch er stößt auf wenig Gegenliebe und das „Dragon-Ball-Z“-Abenteuer kann beginnen. Es la continuación de la serie de anime Dragon Ball, serie animada que fue dada a conocer en Japón en el año 1986. Dragon Ball comenzó como manga en 1984 y luego fue llevada a la animación por el estudio Toei Animation, bajo la mano de su creador, Akira Toriyama. Dragon Ball Z se divide básicamente en cuatro sagas: la llegada de los Saiyajins, la batalla contra Freezer, el nacimiento de Célula y el despertar de Monstruo Bu. De éstas se desprenden subsagas y algunas otras historias que no son originales del manga. Dragon Ball Z se déroule cinq ans après le mariage de Son Goku et de Chichi. Ce dernier apprend qu'il vient d'une planète de guerriers redoutables dont il ne reste plus que quatre survivants. Sono passati ben cinque anni da quando Goku ha sconfitto Junior in uno scontro all'ultimo sangue. Goku nel frattempo si è sposato con Chichi e ha avuto un figlio di nome Gohan. La sua vita e quella dei suoi amici scorre tranquilla e pacifica quando un giorno una navicella spaziale contenente un individuo dall'aspetto umano arriva sulla Terra. Una volta atterrato, questi si reca da Goku, che si trova coi suoi amici sull'isola del Genio delle Tartarughe, affermando di essere suo fratello. L'extraterrestre riferisce inoltre di appartenere alla razza aliena dei Sayan e che il vero nome di Goku è Kaharoth. Da qui cominciano le nuove avventure di Goku e dei suoi amici, che dovranno difendere il pianeta dalle continue minacce sempre più gravi che lo colpiscono. O Dragon Ball Z é a continução de Dragon Ball, cinco anos após Goku ter derrotado Piccolo. Goku está mais velho e se casou com Chichi, como havia prometido no ultimo Tenkaichi Budokai de Dragon Ball. Em Dragon Ball Z as histórias não são mais tão humorísticas e começam a ter mais ação.
