中学を出てすぐクリーニング店に勤めた朝比奈健は、同僚の宏次の不始末で起こした火事の最中、身の危険を冒して、主人の赤ん坊を救いだしたが、あやまって主人を燃え崩れる火の中に突きとばして殺してしまった。数年後少年院を出所した健は、下町にある既製服問屋に引き取られ、配送係として真面目に働いていた。そうしたある日健は、デパートで、少年院時代の仲間サブに金をたかられた。そのとき健にぶつかって来たのが、盲目の少女チエであった。
