Der Dokumentarfilm besteht hauptsächlich aus Interviews, die Florian Hopf 1977 mit Rainer Werner Fassbinder gedreht hat. Die Vertrautheit, die sich zwischen Hopf und Fassbinder über viele Jahre hin entwickelt hatte, ist in den mit großer Offenheit geführten Interviews spürbar.
