제작기간 3년, 제작비 16억원, 촬영국가 15개국 등 남극과 북극, 아시아와 아프리카를 넘나드는 초대형 자연 다큐멘터리로 방송 당시 시청자들의 열띤 호응과 공영방송, 수신료의 가치를 생각해 보게 한다는 호평 등 그 우수성을 인정받은 바 있다. KBS 공사 창립 특집으로 방송된 대기획 은 4부작 다큐멘터리로 대자연이 빚어낸 장관과 ‘23.5도의 기울기는 생명의 에너지였고, 문명의 나침반 이었다'는 주제의식과 닿는 사람들의 이야기를 담았다.
