Die Aristrokratin Anna führt eine aufrichtige aber leidenschaftslose Ehe mit dem Grafen Alessio Capilupi. Als Anna und ihr Sohn bei einer Zirkusveranstaltung Zeuge eines Unfalls werden, stößt sie auf den attraktiven Antonio Brentano, der von ihr hingerissen ist, und wahrscheinlich aus diesem Grund auch dem Sohn einige Aufmerksamkeit schenkt. Von nun an lässt der junge Mann nichts unversucht, Anna wiederzusehen. Auf einer Party, die der Berufssportler Antonio gibt, gesteht er ihr dann seine Liebe.
