20世紀初，“孟河醫派”傳人翁泉海，博採眾家之長學習中醫，先在家鄉孟河開診，後到上海行醫。他以高尚的醫德和精湛的醫術，成為滬上名醫。1920年，上海流行傳染病“爛喉痧”，洋人醫院趁機詆毀中醫，提高藥價，翁泉海潛心研究出中醫療法，救治了大批貧苦病人，提振了中醫聲譽。 1929年2月，國民政府通過了“廢止舊中醫案”，翁泉海為了保存國粹進行了頑強的抗爭。上海淪陷後，翁泉海因為幫助共產黨領導的茅山游擊隊購買藥品被日軍追殺，被迫隱姓埋名回到家鄉孟河，繼續為游擊隊救治傷員。新中國成立後，翁泉海回到上海重開中醫診所。國家重視中醫藥的政策，使這名老中醫終於獲得了新生。
