Alan Rickman first cinematic role was as Hans Gruber in Die Hard (1988). The Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), for which he received the BAFTA Award; Other films included Quigley Down Under (1990); Truly, Madly, Deeply (1990); An Awfully Big Adventure (1995); Colonel Sense and Sensibility (1995); Galaxy Quest (1999); Love Actually (2003); Rickman gained further notice for his film performances as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series. His final film roles were Eye in the Sky (2015), and the voice of Absolem, in Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016).
