로봇 레이스를 좋아하는 소년 해일과 또봇 애슬론을 개발중인 그의 어머니 고운은 애슬론 알파, 베타, 세타와 함께 로봇 레이스에 참가하며 챔피언인 모팍을 만날 꿈에 부푼다. 그러던 중 모팍이 승리를 위해서 수단과 방법을 가리지 않으며 사악한 음모를 꾸미는 악당임을 알게 되자 그가 계속 부당한 방법으로 챔피언의 자리를 차지하게 두어서는 안 된다고 생각하는 해일. 모팍은 자신의 유명세 뒤에 숨은 채 하수인인 도찐과 개찐에게 악행을 시켜가며 우승을 꾀하지만, 해일은 애슬론들과 마음을 모으는 한편 이미 모팍에게 피해를 입은 적 있는 수리의 도움을 받아 정정당당하게 승리를 향한 도전을 한다.
