Der Arzt Mattes Jacobi möchte in Afrika ein Krankenhaus errichten. Um das notwendige Geld zu beschaffen, arbeitet er als Leibarzt auf der Yacht von Jan Richter. Dessen Freundin ist Mattes’ Ex-Frau Ann-Sophie. Die Nachbarin Nicky de Villiers und Mattes verlieben sich ineinander. Eigentlich hasst Mattes den Job als Leibarzt und behandelt deshalb auch andere Patienten. So lernt er den 15 jährigen Jeremy kennen, mit dem er verschwindet und eine Weile in einem Zelt wohnt.
