Le 30 octobre 2017, il est environ 15 heures lorsqu'un élève gendarme découvre dans un fourré, en lisière du bois d'Esmoulins, le corps sans vie et partiellement calciné d'une jeune femme. Pour lui, cela ne fait guère de doute, il s'agit très certainement d'Alexia Daval, disparue deux jours plus tôt. La confirmation de l'identité de la victime fait basculer les parents d'Alexia dans l'horreur. Pendant trois mois, leur gendre, Jonathann, s'assoit à leur table, pleure avec eux, parle d'Alexia, de son absence, de l'amour qu'il lui portait et de l'impossibilité pour lui de vivre sans elle, alors que dans la nuit du 27 au 28 octobre 2017, il l'a frappée à mort avant de l'étrangler, de transporter son corps dans la forêt et d'y mettre le feu.
