二十世纪七十年代，积极上进的制帽厂女工费霓一心想上大学靠知识改变命运。费霓的初中同学方穆扬因救人受伤成为了见义勇为的英雄，费霓主动提出照顾他，想要做好事评先进而被推荐上大学，但希望却屡次落空。现实的压力接踵而至，为了帮哥哥解决婚房的难题，费霓向方穆扬提出假结婚分房。几经波折二人终于有了自己的房子，成为了睡上下铺的小夫妻，他们共同面对困难，鼓励彼此追梦，虽磕磕绊绊，却也在平淡温馨的生活中滋长了情投意合的浪漫。最终费霓终于如愿上了大学，方穆扬也实现了自己的画家梦想，他们在幸福生活和美好未来的路上继续前行
