With the carousel destined to be the centrepiece for an original Edwardian fair, the team are well and truly working against the clock

    The team sets to work restoring a Ruston Bucyrus RB10 crane, famous for playing an important role in the extensive construction and demolition work undertaken in Britain from the 1950s to the 1970s. This particular example was discovered rusting in a shed just outside Glasgow, but with the help of retired mechanics Willy Middlemas and John 'Freefall' McCall, the squad hopes to return the crane to its former glory

Once a marvel of its age, the vehicle is currently little more than a pile of scrap with a boiler threatening to explode. As the team set to work, it soon becomes clear they will have to employ techniques that have virtually died out to finish the job

    Introduction We discover our Amphicar sitting in a barn near Upton-upon-Severn, with nothing but a cow for company. Owner David Chapman originally bought it for spares for his other Amphicar but since there are only 10 of these strange vehicles in Britain, he jumped at Salvage Squad's offer to restore this one. But where do you start with a car that doubles as a boat? The Amphicar 770 was designed by German auto engineer Hanns Trippel for the American market – though it was based on his wartime work, making amphibious cars for the German army.

    The team attempt to refit a Massey Harris 780 combine harvester, a model used by almost all the country's grain farmers in the Fifties, although there are now only 10 left. Their challenge is to restore the machine back to working order in time to bring in the last of the summer wheat. However, with its internal components almost destroyed, it's going to take a lot of work to get it running again

    The team attempt to restore a Scammell Scarab - a 1950s three-wheeled lorry used for carrying cargo from goods trains to its final destination. Unfortunately, a Scammell specialist condemns it to the scrapheap

    The team restore a German one-man submarine, designed to attack the Allied fleet during the D-Day landings. Claire Barratt is keen to pilot the completed machine but there's a problem - a fatal flaw in the exhaust system meant that most pilots suffocated before the craft could even submerge. Suggs tracks down a surviving crewman, who provides the benefit of his experience

    The team attempt to rebuild a 1930s steam-powered crane that has been lying in pieces for decades. Claire Barratt enlists the aid of steam engineers Ian Howard and Jack Meeker and the staff of the Blist Hills Victorian Museum to help with the project, but they hit an obstacle when it turns out there are several missing parts that must be created from scratch

    Claire Barratt and Suggs are challenged to restore the Skima 12 - a vintage hovercraft once owned by the Sultan of Oman. Forty years ago, the vehicle was an innovative mode of transport that promised to revolutionise travel, but high fuel prices and maintenance costs led to many being decommissioned

Manufactured in Sweden and resembling a Land Rover with tracks, the vehicle was a remarkable piece of machinery, but Claire Barratt finds a snag - the one they acquire has spent its life in a Leicester garage and has never even been near a mountain
