ジオン公国軍の第603技術試験隊を舞台に、ジオンの試作兵器の試験の様子を描く。本作で登場する試作兵器はどれも1回または数回の実戦試験に供されるのみで開発が打ち切られ、パイロットたちの命と引き替えに少なからぬ戦果を挙げるものの結局は正式採用されずに消えていく、後世の軍事マニアならば「珍兵器」として扱うであろうものばかりである。しかし、それら時代の主流となり得なかった兵器に携わる男たちは全身全霊をかけて試験に挑み、そして散っていく。本作の作風を指して出渕裕は「負けていく『プロジェクトX』」と表現している
Taking place at roughly the same time as the original Mobile Suit Gundam, MS IGLOO follows the exploits of the Principality of Zeon's 603rd Technical Evaluation Unit, a special crew of weapons development researchers. Stationed aboard the former civilian cargo ship Jotunheim (named after the land of the giants in Norse mythology), the unit field-tests various prototype weapons for combat use under the supervision of Engineer Lieutenant Oliver May. IGLOO's six episodes chronicle the 603rd's adventures as pivotal episodes throughout the One-Year War that were barely mentioned in-depth in the original series.
Gundam MS IGLOO 2 Gravity Of The Battlefront (El Frente en Gravedad), es la segunda entrega de Sunrise de OVAs en CG, que narran historias ubicadas en la línea temporal original Gundam del Universal Century, Al mismo tiempo que ocurre la serie original Mobile Suit Gundam, pero en distintos frentes de la guerra. En la primera entrega de la saga, Gundam MS Igloo Hidden One Year War y Gundam MS Igloo Apocalypse 0079, se nos narra la historia de un grupo de soldados del Principado de Zeon. ESTA VEZ, en Gundam MS Igloo 2 Gravity Of The Battlefront, se nos cuenta la historia, pero desde la perspectiva de los soldados de la Federación Terrestre.
