Ephram hat es noch immer nicht verdaut, dass sein Kind zur Adoption freigegeben wurde. Nun will er wenigstens herausfinden, wo das Kind lebt und ob es ihm bei seinen Adoptiveltern gut geht. Mit Amys Hilfe erfährt er, dass das Kind nun in Kalifornien lebt. Amy kümmert sich allerdings noch in einer anderen Hinsicht um Ephrams Belange und setzt alle Hebel in Bewegung, um einen neuen Termin für seine Aufnahmeprüfung an der Juilliard School zu bekommen. Sie muss jedoch entsetzt erkennen, dass Ephram genau an dem Tag nach Kalifornien fliegen will, um sein Kind zu besuchen. Als ihr daraufhin auch noch herausrutscht, dass sie von Madisons Schwangerschaft wusste, scheint es mit der Beziehung der beiden ein für allemal vorbei zu sein.
Während Ephram in Kalifornien vor dem Haus der Adoptiveltern steht, sich aber nicht weiter traut, beschwert sich Delia bei ihrem Vater darüber, dass dieser nur noch Zeit für Ephram hat. Sie fordert die gleiche Zeit für sich ein und möchte mit Andy zusammen ihr Zimmer neu gestalten. Entsetzt über seine Nachlässigkeit sagt Andy zu, doch er verärgert Delia erneut, als er auch Nina und Jake zu den Renovierungsarbeiten hinzuzieht.
After returning from New York feeling lost and confused and needing Amy for support, Ephram considers his options in the wake of Madison's (Sarah Lancaster, who does not appear in this episode) life-altering revelation. Ephram tries to find the baby by going to Child Services Office, but finds out that Madison signed the adoption papers with "father unknown" and terminating the parent-child relationship with "Unknown Birth Father" leaving Ephram completely crushed.
Amy tries to get Ephram another audition at Julliard after he missed his first appointment due to the emergency with Madison and the baby, but it doesn't go well. Meanwhile, a tired Andy is a little stunned upon learning the extent of Nina's feelings for Jake and with a little encouragement from her friend Bright, Hannah decides to go on a date with a smitten Topher (guest-star Lukas Behnken).
Après son retour de New York, Ephram a besoin de réfléchir sur Madison et sur Amy et aux changements qu'il va devoir faire. En attendant, Andy est assommé d'apprendre l'ampleur des sentiments que Nina éprouve pour Jake.
Dopo la pesante notizia, Ephram, sempre più intenzionato a non rivolgere più la parola al padre, si consola restando vicino ad Amy che, con grande sorpresa di Ephram, vuole aiutarlo a superare questo difficile momento. Andy, stressato da quanto sta accadendo, e geloso della relazione tra Jake e Nina, finisce col trascurare Delia che in un momento di ira etichetta il padre come il genitore che lei non avrebbe mai voluto avere. La situazione tra Ephram ed Amy si complica quando la ragazza non è d'accordo all'idea di Ephram di andare a trovare i genitori adottivi di suo figlio. Benché all'ultimo momento Ephram si tira indietro, la relazione tra i due si compromette tragicamente quando Amy gli confessa di sapere già da un po' di tempo del segreto di Madison.
Después de regresar de New York Amy se siente perdida y necesita apoyo. Ephram no puede estar tranquilo desde que Masidon le contara la verdad, por lo que decide buscar al bebé en la Oficina de adopción, pero se encontrará con que cuando Madison firmó los papeles para la adopción puso 'padre desconocido', lo que deja al joven desorientado.
