The Englishman's dream of a pleasant old age is no longer one of roses around a cottage door in Devon. It is more likely to be geraniums around a Mediterranean balcony. He wants a little place where the taxes are low, the living is easy, and the sun is always shining. A vast industry has grown up to make his dream come true, an industry which has grown fat selling plots of sunshine all the way from Greece to the Caribbean. And every year when retirement day arrives, thousands of ordinary British people sell up their homes in Britain and head for the sun to live in a foreign land amongst foreigners.
