經營珍珠買賣生意的富商朱兆昌(劉江飾)，希望由長子嫡孫繼承「皓月珠寶店」，可惜膝下只有三個女兒。一直寄望最聰明的二女朱碧霞(宣萱飾)能繼承家業，但碧霞不理父親對自己的期望及反對，離家出走，嫁給羅子輝，兆昌只好招郎入舍，將大女朱碧雲(商天娥飾)嫁給與父親兩代都在朱家打工的何祥興(林保怡飾)，雖然祥興的意中人是碧霞，也只好將情意收藏心底，協助兆昌打理生意。
