Originally a segment of "Captain Kangaroo," Tom Terrific was produced by Gene Deitch for Terrytoons in a simplistic black-and-white line-drawing animation style. Tom was a shape-shifting boy who had fantastic adventures with his faithful, sleepy dog 'The Mighty Manfred.' Aimed at younger viewers, Tom spoke softly and helped to engage his young target audience's imaginations and problem-solving skills.
