公元680年，唐高宗李治御驾亲赴泰安祭天，奉命先行前往安排祭天事宜的太子李贤，为一场阴谋所陷害，导致众多护卫被杀，其储君地位被动摇。狄仁杰得到消息，认为这是国家的重大危机，于是冒险赴泰安进行调查。狄公很快从涉案的大量物证和当事人的口供中理出头绪，推断出这是一场伪造兵变嫁祸太子，希图挑起动乱，谋篡政权的巨大阴谋。由此开始，狄公在历时二十年的破案生涯中，凭着他对百姓的热爱，对国家的责任，凭着他超凡脱俗的大智大勇，先后破获了泰安案、成都案、玲珑案等一系列案中有案、案中套案的巨大案件，维护了国家的统一，社会的稳定，百姓的和谐与安居。受到朝廷的嘉奖和百姓的爱戴。
