يطلق الأستاذ يوسف (يوسف شعبان) زوجته ثريا أبو الفضل (فيفي عبده) المرأة المتكبرة، وابتعد عنها وترك أولاده معها، يتزوج ابنها الأكبر من ابنة جيرانهم القدامى، وترفض الأم تلك الزيجة، وتقاطعه في بدء الأمر، ثم تضطر إلى قبول الأمر الواقع إلى أن يموت في حادث سيارة، فتنقلب حياة العائلة رأسًا على عقب.
