明治時代を生きた武士の娘・九堂潔子と、生まれてからずっと彼女を見守り続けた幼馴染みの有馬蒼太の恋愛を中心軸に据え、潔子の父・忠近が横領のかどで逮捕されてしまうことで、九堂家は一瞬にして泥沼状態と化し、父の罪を償おうとする家族の姿を描き、日本人のもつ「愛と誇り」の大切さを訴えた純愛ラブストーリーになる予定であった。
