Kiefer Sutherland ("24") spielt einen Auftragskiller, der mit einem Priester (John Hurt) eine theologische Diskussion führt. Der Killer soll erklären, warum es seine Opfer seiner Ansicht nach verdient hatten, zu sterben. In Rückblenden wird gezeigt, was ihn in den Beichstuhl getrieben hat. Außerdem soll er am selben Abend noch einen weiteren Menschen töten, was ihm der Prieser ausreden soll.
The Confession is a story of unique redemption and an exploration of good and evil featuring a hit man (Kiefer Sutherland), and a priest (John Hurt). The story begins on Christmas Eve, when the hit-man enters a church to confess his sins to the priest. Through a series of gripping flashbacks, the Confessor’s journey is revealed – laying out what has brought him to this moment and leading the audience to the dramatic ending where the man's chances at ultimate redemption hang in the balance. While at first the Confessor seems to be an evil, cold-blooded killing machine and the Priest the ultimate arbiter of good, as the series develops it becomes clear that both characters are much more complicated than either could have suspected.

Il killer non vuole assoluzioni né cerca una qualche sorta di redenzione: vuole soltanto capire cosa porta le persone a cercare la fede, e perché questa ricerca le renderebbe meritevoli della vita.

La historia comienza en la víspera de Navidad, cuando el protagonista entra en una iglesia a confesar sus pecados a un sacerdote a través de una serie de flashbacks que van revelando lo que ha hecho. La trama lleva al público al dramático final donde las posibilidades del hombre en la redención final penden de un hilo. Aunque al principio el Asesino parece ser una máquina de matar con sangre fría y el Sacerdote el árbitro final del bien, a medida que la historia se va desarrollando se hace cada vez más evidente que los dos personajes se asemejan bastante y no son lo que parecen.
