Una bambina e un bambino per gioco si divertono ad esplorare gallerie sotterranee nella loro terra. Divenuti grandi, lui minatore si innamora di lei che di mestiere fa la maestra. Ma costei lo vede sempre come un amico, anche a causa della sua introversione, finisce per fidanzarsi con un altro, un ingegnere. Ad un certo punto però, una frana in miniera durante un'ispezione intrappolerà i due rivali in amore ed allora...
