紀伊国屋文左衛門が紀州の港から江戸にみかんを運び出そうとする。出港を見送る文左衛門の許嫁おそで。雲の上では風の神がみかん船を沈没させようとする。風の神は女房の山の神の美しさに見とれ、涙を流す。風の神には子どもの雷公もいる。みかん船から放り上げられたみかん箱が風の神に当たり、風の神は怒って大嵐を起こす。嵐がおさまった時、船は幸いにも江戸の港に近づいている。みかんは飛ぶように売れ、文左衛門は百万長者になる。そして、かっぽれで歌い踊りお祝いをする。
