銭湯の女主人・かなえは、夫・悟が突然失踪し途方に暮れる。なんとか銭湯を再開すると、堀と名乗る謎の男が「働きたい」とやってきて、住み込みで働くことになり、二人の不思議な共同生活が始まる。一方、友人・菅野に紹介された胡散臭い探偵・山崎と悟の行方を探すことになったかなえは、夫の知られざる事実を次々と知ることに。悟、堀、そして、かなえ自身も心の底に沈めていた想いが、徐々に浮かび上がってくる−。
