À bord du tout nouveau paquebot France, André Malraux, fantasque ministre de la Culture missionné par De Gaulle, entame la traversée. Mais voilà, en plein milieu de l’Atlantique, le chef-d’œuvre disparaît. Il faut à tout prix éviter que la croisière ne vire à l’incident diplomatique mondial. La traversée s'annonce mouvementée.
