Another Day

Kate has been working a job she doesn't like and saving up to go to medical school. She discovers she's pregnant. Her boyfriend is of good conduct, but she and her boyfriend Paul disagree with her decision not to settle down. She drives all day to David's place, her best friend since childhood. She learns the next day that Paul has died in a factory fire. She reaches the factory. It appears as though Paul ought not have been at the factory and appears suicidal. Years later Kate has moved on with her life and her new boyfriend is David. She has chosen to raise the child who has grown to be a four-year-old whom she has named Meghan after her mother. Kate gets admission to an accounting school. David asks her why she's settled for accountancy when she wanted to go to medical school. They have a minor argument in which she accuses David didn't do much with his life either. Kate and David are getting over up by the Meghan plays too close to the river. David talks about conversations he's had with her that Kate doesn't remember. Meghan is swept away by the river current. David jumps into the gushing current to save her. Kate follows and jumps in too. Kate gets separated.

Kate aveva accettato un lavoro che non amava, risparmiando ogni centesimo con l’obiettivo di iscriversi alla facoltà di medicina. Un giorno scopre di essere incinta. Il suo fidanzato, Paul, un uomo di buona condotta, non condivide la sua decisione di non volersi sistemare. Decisa a schiarirsi le idee, Kate guida senza sosta fino alla casa di David, il suo migliore amico d’infanzia. Il mattino seguente, apprende che Paul è morto in un incendio scoppiato nella fabbrica dove lavorava. Raggiunge il luogo della tragedia: tutto lascia intendere che Paul non dovesse trovarsi lì e che il suo gesto sia stato disperato, forse persino volontario. Anni dopo, Kate ha ricostruito la sua vita: ora è legata sentimentalmente a David e ha scelto di crescere la bambina, che ha chiamato Meghan in memoria di sua madre. Meghan ha quattro anni quando Kate viene ammessa a una scuola di contabilità. Un giorno, David le chiede perché abbia rinunciato al sogno di studiare medicina per accontentarsi della contabilità. La conversazione degenera in un lieve battibecco, in cui Kate gli rinfaccia di non aver realizzato nulla di significativo nella propria vita. Mentre cercano di smorzare la tensione, Meghan gioca incautamente vicino al fiume. David menziona alcune conversazioni avute con Kate che lei non sembra ricordare. Improvvisamente, la corrente trascina via Meghan. Senza esitare, David si lancia nell’acqua impetuosa per salvarla. Kate, presa dal panico, si tuffa subito dopo di lui, ma presto viene separata dalla forza del fiume.
