Antonio Skármeta lleva a la pantalla su propia novela (que con tanto éxito fue adaptada en 1994 por Michael Radford en "El cartero y Pablo Neruda"), la acción trascurre en un lugar cercano a Isla Negra, en Italia, donde un joven cartero entrega cartas al poeta chileno exiliado Pablo Neruda, al tiempo que le pide consejos para poder enamorar a la chica que le gusta.
