The elaborate two-parter links the life story of pop singer Udo Jürgens with his family chronicle. The starting point of the story is Jürgens' grandfather Heinrich Bockelmann, who emigrated from Bremen to Russia at the end of the 19th century. The arc stretches over three generations from the end of the Tsarist era through the Russian Revolution and the two world wars to the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
