青年农民田来福（梁天 饰）与同村的姑娘孙春喜（傅艺伟 饰）相爱，却因贫穷受到春喜母女的轻视。春喜之母孙大婶（丁一 饰）以一万块钱的代价承诺将女儿嫁给二憨子（赵亮 饰），惹得两个男人为了老婆大打出手。某天，来福偶然在地里得到一只骁勇善战的斗鸡，在春喜母女的怂恿下，他战战兢兢走进斗鸡场，却没想到连连得胜，很快就凑够了结婚的钱。在二人的婚礼之上，誓不罢休的二憨子携一万块钱前来挑战，已身陷赌博泥潭的来福鬼迷心窍，竟用自己的新婚媳妇作了赌注……
