Nikki Carter travels to Benešov, Czech Republic, to live with her mother Dr Eve Carter after her dad has a heart attack. Eve is a scientist who has developed a new clean version of coal which can be burnt to produce vast amounts of electricity. Nikki doesn’t have a relationship with her mother, as Eve abandoned Nikki and her dad 12 years ago.
