Rick de Winter fiatal, magabiztos és tipikusan az a sikeres férfi, akinek nem kell félnie a jövőtől. Egy hagyományosan konzervatív cég munkatársa. A kiírt pályázat elnyerése után rövidesen ölébe hullhat egy régen áhított vezetői állás. Egyetlen feltétel van: hogy nős legyen! Nincs vesztegetni való ideje, ezért megkéri egy gyorsétterem kiszolgálónőjének, Stellának a kezét. Igen ám, de a nő volt barátja egy drogos bűnöző, aki üldözni kezdi Stellát, Rick-et pedig zsarolni akarja.
