The title character is supposedly a royal daughter – the child of Leo the Last, or Lion-Scented, and Lady Constance Fridzsider – but in fact she was created by the court professor-curio... long after the queen's death! The enervated Fridzsider was poisoned by his lady-in-waiting, the beautiful Arrogance, who then married the old king, who lived only for his hens and ate only green fodder.
