Maggie Cheung, grande vedette du cinéma asiatique, débarque à Paris pour interpréter Irma Vep, le personnage qu'avait créé autrefois Musidora, dans un remake des "Vampires" de Feuillade. Elle ne parle pas un mot de français, et chacun autour d'elle est réduit à un anglais approximatif pour se faire comprendre. En particulier, le réalisateur, qui voit en elle l'unique possibilité d'une Irma Vep moderne.
