Человек во время геноцида потерял семью, дом, близких, землю. Поначалу герой напоминает засохшее дерево: он сосредоточен, весь в себе, молчалив. Такое же впечатление и от селения у подножия Арагаца, в котором он начинает новую жизнь: полуразрушенные дома, запуганные люди, чудом оставшиеся жить на вызженной земле. Проходит время и Наапет, забыв о своем горе, строит новый дом, заводит новую семью и начинает возрождать то, что способно давать плоды.
