동료들과 함께 버려진 집에서 지내는 스티비는 공사장에서 일하는 일용직 노동자이다. 하루는 일터에서 도둑맞은 핸드백을 발견하고 이를 가방의 주인에게 돌려주는데, 그렇게 만난 스티비와 수잔은 서로 사랑에 빠지고 곧 동거를 시작한다. 가난한 스티비와 노래에 소질이 없는 가수 지망생 수잔은 과연 어떤 삶을 꾸려나갈 수 있을까.

Stevie arriva a Londra da Glasgow dopo un "intermezzo" passato in galera. A Londra trova lavoro in un cantiere. Trova un po' di solidarietà, un alloggio abusivo in cui vivere e anche una mezza fidanzata, aspirante cantante e tossicodipendente. Poi, il giorno in cui un suo compagno cade dall'impalcatura per colpa delle insufficienti misure di sicurezza, trova anche il coraggio di dare fuoco al cantiere.
