La mère de Max, Monique, est décédée brutalement d'une crise cardiaque, alors qu'elle s'apprêtait à refaire sa vie au Japon. Tandis que Max entame une relation amoureuse, le fantôme de sa mère apparaît drapée dans un kimono.
