The Garden of the Finzi-Continis

Italien, Ende der 1930er Jahre: Unter dem faschistischen Mussolini-Regime nehmen die Restriktionen gegen jüdische Italiener zu. Immer mehr ausgegrenzt, wird für eine Gruppe Juden in der Stadt Ferrara der Garten der wohlhabenden jüdischen Familie Finzi Contini zum Treffpunkt.

Italie, 1938. Tandis que le régime fasciste vient de promulguer les lois raciales à la veille de la guerre, la bourgeoisie juive de Ferrare, s’efforçant d’ignorer la menace, vit ses derniers feux. Reclus dans leur palais à l’écart de leur communauté, les aristocratiques Finzi-Contini convient la jeunesse dorée exclue des clubs de tennis à des tournois dans leur jardin enchanteur. Depuis l’enfance, Giorgio se consume d’amour pour Micòl, la belle et insaisissable fille de la famille. Quant au frère de celle-ci, le fragile Alberto, il se lie d’amitié avec un fougueux étudiant communiste, Malnate…

In the late 1930s, in Ferrara, a group of young friends get together for afternoons of tennis and happy times. Some of them are History of the Jews in Italy and a rising tide of Fascism has imposed increasingly Antisemitism restrictions in their lives. Barred from regular tennis clubs, they go to play at the grand, walled estate owned by the Finzi-Continis, a wealthy, intellectual and sophisticated Jewish family. The two young Finzi-Continis, Alberto and his sister Micòl, have organized a tennis tournament. Oblivious to the threats around them, life still seems to be sunny at the large Finzi-Contini estate, keeping the rest of the world at bay.
