The film centers on singer Vanessa Hernandez, known professionally as NEZZA, whose invitation to perform the national anthem at Dodger Stadium last summer shifted from a dream opportunity into something far more complicated when she chose to sing it in Spanish. Set against an increased presence of immigration enforcement in Los Angeles, the performance took on added weight during a period of heightened fear and uncertainty for many immigrant families.
