Die Stiefbrüder Klaus und Rolf Petersen könnten kaum unterschiedlicher sein. Der eine ist Musiker, der andere Landwirt. Als sich beide in die hübsche Sonja verlieben und diese sich nicht entscheiden kann, verlässt Rolf das Dorf in Richtung Amerika. In derselben Nacht wird Klaus ermordet. Als Rolf zehn Jahre später zurückkehrt, muss er feststellen, dass sowohl die Polizei als auch die Dorfbewohner ihn für den Täter halten.
