Fidel Castro

Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz (1926–2016) was a Cuban revolutionary leader who became a central figure in the 1959 Cuban Revolution. He ruled Cuba as Prime Minister and then President for nearly 50 years. Under his leadership, Cuba became a socialist state, implementing radical health and education reforms. An ally of the Soviet Union, he faced a long US embargo. Criticized as a dictator, he was a polarizing figure during the Cold War.
