  • S01E01 Arriving in the Outback

    Series following four British and four Australian kids as they travel to the remote Australian outback for an extraordinary month-long adventure. They have got to master all the skills needed to become jackaroos, the Australian term for cowboys. They must cope with living in the harsh landscape, as well as learn to ride and work with livestock. All their training is for one final challenge - to drive hundreds of cattle through the vast outback in a giant muster on horseback. The eight adventurers meet for the first time and discover what lies ahead for them in the coming weeks.

    The Australian Outback, one of the most inhospitable places on the planet, is the location for one of CBBC's toughest tests. Four British and four Australian kids are here to try and make the grade as jackaroos capable of driving hundreds of cattle through the Aussie bush. This time, the team are in for a rude awakening when they find out that life as a jackaroo starts early in the morning. Before breakfast, they have to muck out and feed horses. Then it's straight into the cattle yards to find out what to do when there's two hundred kilos of beef coming at you.

They also have their teamwork and patience tested when Doug and Maisie take charge of two teams in an outback challenge.

    The Outback 8 are settling into the routine of outback life, and as their confidence on horseback grows, they get their first taste of what all the training is leading up to. The team have their first go at mustering a small group of cattle, which earns them a well-deserved break, during which they meet Australia's most iconic animal at a local kangaroo orphanage. And disaster strikes for Dan as he lands himself in hospital, which rules him out of riding.

    Series following four British and four Australian kids as they travel to the remote Australian outback for an extraordinary month-long adventure. The team head off further into the bush to experience life on a remote sheep farm, but for Doug his time as a jackaroo is going from bad to worse as he's left out of riding practice. Meanwhile, Tamara gets into bother with Ingrid for not listening. Then the whole team land themselves in trouble as they forget their jackaroo training and let a tiny little lamb run rings around them. Of course any trip to a sheep farm wouldn't be complete without shearing, and it's the smallest of the group, Amity, who shows she's got what it takes to become a sheep shearer.

The Outback 8 enjoy a good old Aussie barbecue, but the menu is not to everyone's liking when Doug discovers he has been eating his favourite animal. The team also bring the whole town to a standstill when they take part in the Dunny Derby, a race involving toilets on wheels. Also, the boys take on the girls to see who is best at setting up camp.

Jack and Amity will take two of the horse riding spots, but who else in the team is good enough to take the remaining two places? The other four kids will be showing bulls, so the pressure is on for them all to get it right, as no one wants to be left out of the show.

Doug and Maisie are brought down to earth with a bump when their riding lets them down. The Outback 8 take on some of the most unpopular jobs around the farm, and the heat is on when they learn to tackle bush fires. Levi gets fed up with Maisie as she backs out of another team challenge, leaving her team-mates saddled with a pile of potatoes to peel.

One of the group will have to lead the Outback 8 on their final muster, so there's another chance to try out the leadership skills of one of the team and it's Tamara's turn to take over the reins. She's responsible for organising the eight as they go mustering calves and cows, but her style of leadership rides them straight into trouble. The final preparations for the Longreach show continue, as the bull team finds itself landed with the job of babysitting their bulls the night before the big day.

The big day has finally arrived and the whole town is out in force at the Longreach Show. The Outback 8 have had just two weeks of intensive practice to take part. Four of the team are taking on the locals in the horse riding event, while the other four are showing prize bulls. Will the team beat the locals and pick themselves up some rosettes? Levi discovers that jackaroo skill might actually be in his blood. Plus, love is in the air for our junior jackaroos, when they prove they're as cheesy as their pizzas on a big night out.

The Outback 8 receive some bad news: they all might not make the final muster if they cannot show any improvement in their riding. Tamara looks like the favourite to stay behind when she suffers two massive falls from her horse. Plus, there is a birthday for one of the jackaroos, but the team's efforts to make it a day to remember are not much appreciated by the group's newest teenager - Maisie. And there is the position of the lead jackaroo to fill, for the final muster. Jack, Dan, Selena and Amity compete for the job, but who will ride off with the prestigious lead jackaroo role?

The Outback 8 have gone through weeks of training and hard work, and now the moment of truth has arrived: the final muster challenge. As the muster begins, the Lead Jackaroo is revealed and one team member reaches new heights on a helicopter ride. When the going gets tough, Doug and Tamara are demoted to fence building, while the rest of the Outback 8 ride out.

    Series following four British and four Australian kids as they travel to the remote Australian outback for an extraordinary month-long adventure. It's the final day of muster, and Lead Jackaroo Dan has a job on his hands to finish as the team's riding ability is put to the test. Once the muster is over, thoughts turn to home as the jackaroos' achievements are celebrated at a special awards ceremony. There's not a dry eye in the house as the jackaroos say goodbye to the each other and to the outback.
