日本には、古来 “鬼” と呼ばれる者たちがいた。人間でありながら超人的な能力を持つ彼らは、魔化魍（まかもう）と呼ばれる妖怪の類から人々を守っていた。そして鬼をサポートする人々の体系は組織へ発展し、猛士（たけし）と呼ばれるようになった。 西暦2005年。高校受験を目前に控えた安達 明日夢（あだち あすむ）は、母の実家の法事で屋久島に向かう船上で、船から転落した男児を助ける男を見た。それを見て驚く明日夢に男は「鍛えてますから」とだけ言い残して立ち去った。 島を散策しに出た明日夢は、原生林の中で怪物に襲われる。窮地の明日夢の前に再び船上の男・ヒビキが現れる。ヒビキは音叉を顔の前にかざすと、全身が炎につつまれ鬼の姿に変身、怪物に立ち向かっていった。

Kamen Rider, also known as Masked Rider, is a Japanese media franchise consisting of tokusatsu television programs, films, and manga, created by manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori. Kamen Rider media generally features a motorcycle-riding superhero with an insect motif who fights supervillains, often known as kaijin. The franchise began in 1971 with the Kamen Rider television series, which followed college student Takeshi Hongo and his quest to defeat the world-conquering Shocker organization. The original series spawned television and film sequels and launched the Second Kaiju Boom on Japanese television during the early 1970s, impacting the superhero and action-adventure genres in Japan.
