金沢の美術大学を卒業したアキコは、父・健一の勤める「南九州テレフォン」にコネで入社することになり、実家宮崎に帰ってきた。入社当日、健一はアキコの挨拶を遮り、唐突に学費の話を始め電卓をたたくと「この金食い虫が！」と同僚の前でアキコに怒鳴りだす。仲裁に入った猿渡副主任や黒木が「美大出身なんて大歓迎、皆喜んでいますよ」というと、すぐに笑顔になって喜ぶ健一。
