鹿児島県の南に浮かぶ大美島、その地方（家庭）裁判所支部に、三沢恭介（西島秀俊）が支部長として転勤してくる。妻の麗子（戸田菜穂）と娘と共にであったが、どこか夫婦のかわす表情はぎこちない。恭介の前任地は大阪地裁、高度な専門知識を要求される知的財産を扱う部署で、激務の日々を送っていた。その代償として妻は娘を連れ実家に帰り、家庭は崩壊しかけていたのだ。恭介はこの転勤を機にやり直そうと、なんとか妻を説得し島につれて来たのだ。
