舞台はアメリカのカリフォルニア州。ロサンゼルスに住んでいるアンダーソン一家のもとに、ある日パパの隠し子と名乗る少年ジョナサンと飼い犬のアダムが現れる。しかも、この少年の母親がパパの元カノだと知り、家族中が大パニック…かと思いきや、家族のほとんどが彼を受け入れてしまう。当然パパはショックで寝込んでしまう。そして、一人納得のいかないフィーは彼に対して敵対心をむき出しにする。
Gli Anderson, una famiglia americana residente a Los Angeles, in California, ricca ma alquanto 'pittoresca', si ritrova a dover adottare un bambino di nome Jonathan Allen quando quest'ultimo afferma di essere figlio illegittimo di Wilfred, il padre della famiglia. Ciò si rivela in seguito essere falso, ma la natura gentile del bambino conquista tutti i componenti della famiglia, che decidono comunque di ospitarlo insieme al suo cane Adam.
La serie racconta la vita di tutti giorni della famiglia Anderson, in particolar modo quella della secondogenita Fea, dal carattere risoluto e dalla vita amorosa un po' problematica, che non vede di buon occhio l'arrivo di Jonathan.
The story revolves around the Andersons, an American family who resided in Los Angeles, California. Everything was turned upside down when a strange boy named Jonathan arrived with his dog Adam and claimed to be an illegitimate son of Wilfred Anderson, the wimpy father of the family. That turned out not to be true, but aside from his trickery, Jonathan's kind nature won over the family and they decided to adopt him (and his dog, too).
The family had got involved in several misadventures, but despite their dysfunction, they remained a loving family and their relationships with each other and other people even got strengthened.
