明朝中期成化年间，厌倦了官场世俗的文武全才李寻欢遇难之际被武林高手龙啸云相救，二人结为义兄弟。李寻欢和林诗音从小指腹为婚，彼此相爱，但是龙啸云爱上了义弟之妻，对李寻欢横刀夺爱，李寻欢远走他乡。几年后李寻欢重新回到中原，无意间与龙啸云的儿子龙小云产生摩擦，于是李寻欢不得以回到李园去面对龙啸云和林诗音，于是又产生了一段情与怨、恩与仇，纠葛最终以林诗音和龙啸云双双身亡完结。其后李寻欢卷入驸马失踪案，与金钱帮帮主上官金虹对立，期间认识了惊鸿仙子杨艳，坠入情网，却仍然以悲剧收尾 。
