昭和銀行に勤続15年。原口元子は、ベテランとは名ばかりで実は重宝に使われるだけの生活に見切りをつけていた。莫大な隠し預金の存在を知ったことをきっかけに、元子は半年間慎重に計画を練り、ついに7500万円の横領に成功する。村井次長はじめ、銀行の上層部は元子の示す架空預金者帳簿の写しに、事件を表ざたにすることができない。勝ち取った元子は退社し、横領金を元手に銀座でクラブを開店する。そのころ、自身が架空預金者の一人でもある財界の黒幕、長谷川は部下の安島に銘じて元子の動向を探らせはじめた。
