Uma história com ares de fábula na década de 1920. Após uma convulsão política no reino africano de Batanga, a rainha Niara é deposta e foge com a filha, Alika, para o Brasil; as duas se estabelecem no interior de Pernambuco, onde a princesa, disfarçada como Lúcia, se apaixona por um trabalhador rural.
