Začíná nový školní rok. Kelly se vyhýbá Dylanovi a Brendě. Brenda dostává na starosti nováčka Sue Scanlonovou, Scottovu sestru. Steve chce dostat také nějakou holku, ale je mu přidělen Herbert. Donna dostává na starost Nikki, která přes léto chodila s Davidem. David se Donně bojí přiznat, co mezi nimi v létě bylo. V škole je nový profesor Gil. Ten jmenuje Brandona šéfredaktorem novin a Andrea chce z novin odejít. Brandon se seznamuje s Nikki. (Postavy Sue, Herbert a Nikki byly původně určeny pro spinoff seriálu).
Das neue Schuljahr hat begonnen: Kelly hat ihren Sommerflirt mit Dylan immer noch nicht überwunden. Wohin sie auch geht, überall scheint sie Dylan und Brenda beim Knutschen zu sehen. Brandon wants to quit the paper so that he can enjoy his senior year. Andrea enlists the help of new advisor and English teacher Gil Meyers to change his mind. Gil decides to have Brandon replace Andrea as editor. She accuses him of sexism and wants to resign. Gil resolves the dispute by making Andrea and Brandon co-editors. A depressed Kelly changes her entire schedule to avoid Brenda and Dylan. Brenda, Steve and Donna sign up to be ""senior buddies"" for freshmen and transfer students. Donna is paired with David's summer fling Nikki, who has moved from San Francisco. David is afraid to confess to Donna, but Nikki inadvertently breaks the news. Donna tests David's love by having Nikki pretend to come on to him. Nikki expresses an interest in Brandon. Steve winds up with geeky freshman Herbert, while Brenda tries to help Scott's troubled sister Sue. Ai ragazzi dell'ultimo anno viene affidato il compito di "tutor" per le nuove matricole e Brenda diventa la tutor di Sue Scanlon, la sorella minore di Scott: la ragazza è ancora sconvolta dalla morte del fratello. Kelly è depressa per la relazione fra Dylan e Brenda e si sente sola.
