  • S09E01 Rescue My Renovation at Blog Cabin

    On this special episode of Rescue My Renovation, host John DeSilvia travels to scenic Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to lend a helping hand to Chris Grundy on Blog Cabin. So far, Grundy has totally overhauled the frame of the 1970s cabin, but now, he needs a little help with the library and Johnny D is coming to the rescue. JD plans to start by installing a double-sided fireplace and a curved wall to accent the entrance to the master bedroom. From there, it's on to wall-to-wall built-in bookshelves and a custom butcher's block worktable. It's going to be a beautiful library, but there's a lot of work to be done!

    Alison and her crew are in Idaho to crash the Blog Cabin kitchen. With the walls already up and drywalled, Alison and Grundy can concentrate on building some big DIYs. Up first, a giant table made of black walnut with custom light-up lettering for the formal dining area. For the kitchen, they build stools out of fresh timber, channeling out sections and adding a resin and copper mix that will sparkle underneath the breakfast bar. Finishes include dual colored cabinetry with under cabinet lighting, dual colored quartz backsplash and countertops, stainless steel appliances and a custom-built chef's pantry.

    Everything that happens at Blog Cabin is all about going big so that no one ever wants to go home. Josh Temple and Chris Grundy take on two rooms located on the ground floor of this stunning lakeside retreat. In the media/entertainment room, the guys frame a projector screen with vintage suitcases, old speakers and radios. The nearby refreshment bar is topped with a zinc wrapped counter sanded down to mimic the sparkle of the Idaho Diamond stone fireplace in the next room. This living space features a rustic burnt cedar barn door, a floating bench made with repurposed framing material, a framed art wall made with a reclaimed "for sale" sign from a nearby property, and a coffee table topped with the same beautiful stone found on the fireplace. Lakeside living in the Coeur d'Alene wilderness doesn't get any better!

    A neglected cabin, last touched in the 1970s, gets a full-on makeover courtesy of Blog Cabin. Bath Crashers tackles the master suite, creating a contemporary mountain retreat designed to take in the views and pamper the lucky person who will eventually call this place home. There's a shower with tons of body sprays and a multi-head rain fixture overhead that changes colors depending on the mood. The vanity is one of a kind, a former entertainment center that now has plenty of storage and style. On the walls, wood and rock pay tribute to the beautiful, rustic, mountain setting. The furnishing are all out luxury, from the super comfy bed, to the gorgeous floors, to the custom storage cabinetry. This master suite is all about "roughing it" with style and comfort!

    Chris and his team head to Blog Cabin in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho to transform the spacious upper deck and front yard into a cozy hideaway with amazing lake views. He builds a slatted pergola with beefy metal posts, beneath a massive dining table and benches complete with a custom slatted bar and grill station and a vertical kitchen garden wall with trailing veggies and colorful flowers. In front, a dry streambed loaded with native and water bog plants to complete this modern Lakeview hideaway.

    Chris and his team return to Blog Cabin in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to transform the lower yard into a mountain retreat space that maximizes the amazing lake view. He builds a 20-foot long waterfall with a rustic wood and metal bridge. Nearby, he creates custom metal and wood benches to flank the fire pit that sits on a massive locally sourced flagstone patio. In addition, he creates a private space for a cedar hot tub, a nature path with a one-of-a-kind lodge bench and an industrial ceiling for the indoor/outdoor game room.
